BALTIMORE, Maryland October 2, 2015 - He told terrified victims to state their religion. With his gun drawn on everyone, their answers decided their fate. If a victim identified themselves as Christian, the killer, 26-year-old Chris Harper-Mercer, killed the person, If the victim gave another answer, they were still shot, but not fatally. All of this occurred at a small Community College in southwest Oregon called Umpqua Community College. It was adjacent to the town of Roseburg, Oregon.
Neighbors described Harper=Mercer as a nasty and distant person, prone to sitting in his apartment with only one dim light shining. He may have posted on social media on September 30, threatening to commit his acts on the day following. He urged people in the "northwest" to stay home from school on Thursday. President Obama immediately took to the national airwaves to berate those who opposed more stringent gun laws. National commentator Mark Levin was so outraged at what Obama conceded was a political ploy within hours of the dastardly act that he pulled his listeners away from Obama in the middle of his address. The area where the shooting occurred - Roseburg, Oregon - is one of a number of so-called 'gun free zones,' where guns generally are banned, it was reported, but Fox News Radio said at 2 am that Oregon allows concealed weapons on a college campus. It is doubtful that the murderer's guns were concealed, however, since multiple media reports said he had four guns with him including three pistols and a rifle. And Harper-Mercer wasn't stopped until someone with a gun arrived and, as the local sheriff said, "neutralized the threat."
In the early hours of Friday morning, while a vigil continued in Roseburg, Oregon, it was revealed that Harper-Mercer lived in Roseburg with his mother, while his father lived in Los Angeles with a subsequent wife.
