Orioles' Dramatic Late Charge Repels Nationals

BALTIMORE, Maryland August 5, 2014 - The Orioles overcame a 3-1 deficit in Washington last night to defeat the Nationals, 7-3. Ryan Flaherty's double tied the game in the seventh, and Delmon Young's pinch hit single - after a sacrifice bunt by Caleb Joseph, who had earlier homered - put the Birds ahead to stay. A third run in the inning was plated on a single by Adam Jones. Young had moved around the bases on singles by Nick Markakis - who also homered earlier in the game - and Manny Machado. Baltimore pushed across two additional runs in the 8th, with both scoring on a single by Jospeh.

With Toronto idle, the Baltimore lead in the tough American League East expanded to four games. The Orioles already lead Toronto by five in the loss column.
