FREDONIA, New York, Sunday, June 18, 2017 - On a clear, warm late June weekend, the waters of one of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie, glisten like polished diamonds in the late morning sunshine. Standing on a cliff that is really only six or seven feet above the narrow beach here in Lake Erie State Park, the beautiful but still chilly waters are clear as new glass, and the lake bottom can be clearly seen even when the water depth grows to ten or twelve feet.
People are swimming in Lake Erie before noon and lifeguards scramble to position warning ropes around the so-called shallow parts before anymore swimmers jump in. To the left, the State of New York has posted an informational sign detailing five or the dozens of shipwrecks that occurred just off these beaches since the founding of the country.
My family has booked rooms in the venerable "White Inn" on Main Street here in Fredonia, New York. According to written material available at the Inn, it has been in continuous operation since 1868. It is called the "White Inn" because it is painted white from top to bottom. While the grounds remain gorgeous, with flowers blooming everywhere, the Inn has abandoned its liquor license and closed its dining room while the current owner debates whether to sink more money into it or take another route with his cash. The rooms are clean, however, and the breakfast that is served in a large room off the lobby is wonderful for the low cost ($0).
Many of the folk staying here these days, and many of the employees, spend at least some time chatting about certain alleged supernatural residents here at the Inn. There are two or three rooms which are said to be, well, haunted. Some of the employees swear they've seen things they don't care to see a second time. There is no debate that in 1968 there was a murder-suicide here that left a husband and wife at room temperature for the duration. That is fairly recent as hauntings go, but who is quibbling about a few years here and there?
My family came to Fredonia to celebrate the wedding of two outstanding United States Marines, one from our family and one from a local family. The Saturday Night affair was one to remember for all the right reasons.
As the dozens of out-of-town wedding goers headed south on Sunday morning, many of us were sad to read that cool Canadian Air was moving back in to the Buffalo-Niagara Falls vicinity on Monday, one day after we headed back to the Mid-Atlantic Heat of Baltimore.
It is quite impossible, I must add, to escape the sad behavior of the Ultra Left, even right here in a blue state like New York.
It is a fact that most Americans - everyone except the denizens of the Ultra Left - do not approve or appreciate the non-stop obscene behavior of the Ultra Left. Plainly, it is not well received. Even among those who admit to being Democrats, there is no attempt to explain or rationalize the un-American trash their own United States Senator seems to be spearheading.
A lot will spin out of the mid-term elections next year. For America's sake, we can only hope that the Ultra Left is sent packing from Washington and any other place where they think they are needed, but clearly are not.
