Orioles Move Back Into AL East Top Spot After 5-1 Drubbing of Boston Red Sox; Adam Jones Plates Three Oriole Runs With Home Run and Double; Tyler Wilson Blanks Beantown Bunch Over Eight Innings, Giving Up Just 3 Hits

BALTIMORE, Maryland June 17, 2016 - Adam Jones hit a majestic two-run home run and drove in a third run with a double as the Orioles won the rubber game of a three-game set in Fenway Park by defeating the Boston Red Sox, 5-1.  Baltimore starter Tyler Wilson was superb, allowing just three hits and only one walk over eight strong innings.  The only Boston run came in the ninth off of reliever Brad Brach.

Adam Jones continued his red hot hitting by clubbing a long and powerful two-run home run in the third inning off of Red Sox starter - and loser - Eduardo Rodriguez.  Jones knocked in a third run in the next inning with a two-out double.  Both the homer and the double scored third-baseman Paul Janish, who walked to lead-off the third and had a two-out single in the fourth.  Baltimore erupted for two more runs in the fifth inning to move ahead, 5-0.  They chased Rodriguez in the process.  Manny Machado, who had three hits on the night, doubled to lead off the fifth.  One out later, Machado scored on a Chris Davis RBI single.  Davis then scored on a double by Oriole Second Baseman Jonathan Schoop.

Wilson, who improved his season record to 3-5 and dropped his ERA to 4.16, needed a modest 100 pitches to retire Boston through eight innings.  The young hurler out of the University of Virginia's strong college program, had struggled of late.

Baltimore and Boston had entered the three game set tied for first in the AL East.  By winning two of the three games this week in Boston, the Orioles sit alone in first place with a one game advantage over the Red Sox and 2 and one-half games over third place Toronto.  The Blue Jays are in Baltimore to begin a three game weekend set tonight.
