Even in Final State of the Union Obama Wallows in Far Left Dogma; Maryland Drops Big Ten Test at Michigan, Determined Late Rally Falls Barely Short; ISIS-Connected Suicide Bomber Kills Ten, Injures Fifteen in Istanbul

BALTIMORE, Maryland January 13, 2016 - President Obama has delivered his final - as in "thank God it is finally here: final" - State of the Union Speech.  The milestone was met with general thanks to the Almighty for having kept the nation in one piece throughout the very horrific eight years.  There is no joke here, folks.  There were a whole lot of times during these years when a lot of us didn't think we would make it, so wrong-headed were Obama's policies and decisions.  A hard core leftist should never be given a leadership role such as the one Obama had dumped in his lap.  Even on his final State of the Union he couldn't help himself enough to avoid saying something this goofy:  he said one of the most important things about America's greatness was its unending ability to innovate and invent.  Innovation and invention are the result of a capitalistic economy.  Only when great minds know they can benefit from their inventions and innovations will they make the sacrifices necessary to follow their dreams.  Communist and Socialist countries constantly are beset with societies lacking in innovation and invention.  Even when the Soviet Union and other such countries did come up with ideas, it was because they promised the world to the minds doing the inventing and innovating.  But even after all of these years, he still didn't grasp that because he is so hopelessly wrapped up in his uber left mindset.

Maryland lost its first Big Ten game, bowing to the Michigan Wolverines in Anne Arbor, 70-67.  The Terps trailed throughout the game - at one point deep into the second half the Wolverines held a 13 point lead at 48-35 - but managed to claw and scratch their way back into contention thanks to the determined play of Diamond Stone, Jake Layman and, near the conclusion of the game, Rasheed Sulaimon.  It was Sulaimon who made two critical three-point shots to revive Maryland's fading chances in the final minutes.  Then, Stone converted two free throws to shave the Michigan lead to two with 40 seconds remaining.  But Michigan's Mark Donnal rebounded a missed shot by his teammate Derrick Walton, Jr. with 17 seconds to play, forcing the Terps to foul.  Donnal converted one of his two chances, giving the Terps one final chance to tie the game with a three point shot.  Maryland raced up the floor and again found Sulaimon, but as the final buzzer was about the sound, the Senior's long yet open three-point shot hit the back of the rim and bounced away.

That Maryland went to Sulaimon on the play instead of All-American Melo Trimble was a testament to how well Michigan defensed Trimble throughout the contest.  For the first time all season Trimble was a non-factor, scoring only two early points and earning only 3 assists while being tagged with 4 turnovers.  Maryland instead relied upon a dominant performance by Stone, who had 22 points and 11 rebounds, Layman, who finished with 18 points and 10 boards, and Robert Carter, 15 points but only 3 rebounds.

A Syrian National with suspected ties to ISIS has carried out a suicide bombing attack on tourists in Istanbul, Turkey.  Most of the ten people killed are German, as are most of the 15 injured.  The dead were all near the famed Blue Mosque in the Sultanahmet District of Istanbul (formerly known as Constantinople).  In Rome, the Pope offered prayers for the victims and their families.
