Terps Mid-Week Games Postponed; Series at No. 2 Florida State Looms
BALTIMORE, Maryland March 5, 2014 - The Maryland Baseball Team has had all the 'real game' practice they are going to have before they open their ACC season at No. 2 Florida State this weekend. Single games in Tallahassee are scheduled for Friday night (6 pm), Saturday afternoon (2 pm) and Sunday morning (11 am). I am not aware of any formal announcement, but it is certain that Jake Stinnet (2-1) will start Friday night and Freshman sensation Mike Shawaryn (3-0) will start one of the other two games, probably Saturday. Stinnet is coming off being ACC pitcher of the week the last two weeks. In his last outing last Friday against Massachusetts, all Stinnet did was pitch a complete game no-hitter. For his part, Shawaryn has pitched to an ERA of 0.54 over 16 and two-thirds innings. Stinnet's ERA is 1.23 over 22 innings. One of Shawaryn's wins was over No. 21 Florida in Gainesville. Brandon Lowe and Blake Schmit lead the Terps in Runs Batted In with 8 each, while Charlie White, the lead off hitter, follows closely with 7 runs batted in. Kevin Martir and Mike Rescigno have 6 each. Anthony Papio leads the Terps in hits with 11 and batting average with a .429 mark.
