When the New York Times Gets Out of Washington, Its Reporters Get to be Reporters Again: Case in Point: An Outstanding Update on Ukraine Crisis

BALTIMORE, Maryland May 2, 2014 - The Ukraine is percolating, and may catch on fire. At the Eastern Ukraine City of Slovyansk an early morning action on Friday saw the Ukraine Army mount a drive to dislodge Russian-backed Separatists from their heavily fortified positions inside the City. The army did manage to capture and hold a key bridge leading into the City, but then it stopped its advance. Both sides reinforced positions at the bridge, and at last report, the government was holding its key position.

There is a report that two helicopters were shot down. But the New York Times, in a post at mid-day Friday, said it could not confirm the report and has not seen any helicopter crash site. The Times also says that the Kremlin is extremely angry that the Ukraine is trying to take back its country. It says the latest move by Kiev brings the brokered peace agreement from last week to an end.

The New York Times has an outstanding update on the entire Ukraine situation at this site: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/03/world/europe/ukraine.html?_r=0 In the wake of this I would only be doing a rewrite and I will not do that.
