Closing Arguments Conclude in Impeachment Sham; Final Vote Pending on Wednesday; Maryland Returns to AP Top 10, Key Match Up With Rutgers Set For Tuesday

TOWSON, Maryland Monday, February 3, 2020 - As the attorneys for both sides in the ongoing impeachment imbroglio made their final arguments - even as the post you now read was being authored - the idea that a duly elected President of these United States could be ejected from office for anything even connected to this sham becomes more and more ludicrous as every second, minute and hour slides by.  Jay Sekulow, one of the President's attorneys, made clear in his closing remarks that it was important not just to acquit President Trump, but to take additional steps to ensure that such obscene acts do not happen again to any President of any political persuasion.  He played for the assembled Senators - acting as jurors in the trial of the President - some certain remarks by a variety of Congressmen, including Nads Nadler, that indicated just how much most of the Democrats loathe the President.  These remarks also showed clearly that impeachment was afoot long before Trump was inaugurated.

God bless Sekulow, whose courage was clear to the Senate even in the face of the Democratic mob.  One need only recall the episodes where opponents to the mob were run out of restaurants and subjected to other mob-rule tactics.  Testimony emerged that Democratic thugs - the Antifa 'Mob-Thuggery' - took to sending thugs to Trump campaign events, there to commit violent acts time after time.

From the beginning, the absurdity of it all stands out like an example of pure political shenanigans, and nothing more.  In every other impeachment, decisive votes were always bi-partisan.  Not so here or now, as the Democrats make a mockery of the mechanism for impeachment.

For me, the ultimate absurdity - over and above the threats of impeachment lobbed toward the President even before he became President, was the time when the party of ANTIFA (the Democrats) tried to act like it was somebody else who was at fault for the violent acts for which ANTIFA and the Democrats are directly responsible.  But it is the Democrats and their leader, Hilary Clinton, who were and are responsible for ANTIFA and ANTIFA Violence, from the first act to the last, and for all acts in between.  It is something to contemplate when Schiff and his cohorts try to remove Trump.  It is Schiff who is responsible for the masked thugs called ANTIFA.  And we haven't even broached the George Soros legacy.

There were many many years when I worried that my politics and views had drifted too far left.  I should not have feared.  My politics turned out to be nothing worse than centrist when compared to the Anti-American Outlaws now populating the Far Left and ensconced in my party.

It might - might - provide the nation a pause in the absurd behavior provided by Schiff, Nadler etc. were the nation to vote the Anti-American majority out of office in the House and give time for the nation to catch its breath.

Though the election isn't until November, it seems now that the violence of the Left crashes down on us with no time to spare.  Every single President who has served would be subject to impeachment were the Senate to remove President Trump.  Pray that the Good Lord does not allow this "purely partisan and political" snake oil to succeed.

A Few Sports Notes - As this story is posted, Illinois and Michigan State sit atop the Big Ten Men's Basketball Standings, each with 8 wins and 3 losses in conference play.  Maryland is a mere half game off the pace, at 7-3.  The top 3 in the Big Ten are closely followed by Iowa and Rutgers, each at 7-4, Penn State at 6-4 and Wisconsin at 6-5.  Everyone else is below .500 in conference play.

Surprisingly, the Terps are the highest rated team in the Big Ten in this week's newly released AP Top 25.  By virtue of their current four game win streak and a big road win over Iowa, Maryland climbed from No.15 to No. 9.

Other Big Ten teams in the AP Poll include No. 16 Michigan State, No. 17 Iowa, No. 20 Illinois, and No. 22 Penn State.  Were the poll extended, Ohio State would be No. 28, Rutgers would be No. 34 and Michigan would be tied for No. 38.

There is a pivotal showdown between Maryland and Rutgers tomorrow night in College Park, Maryland.

Surging Baylor stands at No. 1 in the AP Poll.  The Bears are 19-1 overall, and are followed in the poll by No. 2 Gonzaga (23-1), No. 3 Kansas (18-3), No. 4 San Diego State (23-0), No. 5 Louisville (19-3), No. 6 Dayton (20-2), No. 7 Duke (18-3), No. 8 Florida State (18-3), No. 9 Maryland (17-4) and No. 10 Villanova (17-4).
