Trump Administration Removes Vindman and Sondland; Vindman Escorted From White House by Security Detail, Maryland Rallies to Win at Illinois; Terps Hold Big Ten Top Spot

TOWSON, Maryland Friday, February 7, 2020 - The President is the kind of person whom you either love or hate, but you will quickly learn that no matter how you feel, you will learn to live in his world.  He is that large.

In Trump World today, one of the President's tormentors - although, clearly, not one of the ones who wanted to be out front of that group - found his world turned very much upside down by the President.  Until today, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman worked for the  National Security Council inside the White House.

But today, Vindman was canned and, on top of that, was promptly escorted out of the White House by a security detail.

Also getting the old heave ho today was the USA ambassador to the EU, Gordon Sondland.  Both Vindman and Sondland testified before the House of Representatives during the unsuccessful Trump Impeachment trial.  Early in the day news swirled around the Washington Press Corp that Vindman was in trouble.  Asked about this, Trump admitted that was unhappy with Vindman.

"You think I'm supposed to be happy?" Trump said to reporters. "I'm not."

Vindman is on active duty with the military, and Defense Secretary Mark Esper said he was eager to have Vindman back from his current assignment so that he could be reassigned.

Sondland told reporters that he had been informed that he was being recalled from his current position.  There was no immediate news about his future.

Sports: Maryland fell behind home-standing Illinois by double digits in the first half, but then staged a dramatic rally in the waning minutes of the opening frame, and stepped up the defensive pressure in the second half to defeat Illinois, 75-66.

Maryland entered the game tied with Illinois atop the Big Ten.  The ninth-ranked Terps now hold the top spot alone.
