Private Data of 20,000 IRS Employees Compromised

BALTIMORE, Maryland March 19, 2014 - The IRS admitted today that private information about 20,000 of its own employees has been compromised. The agency said in a release that the data breach occurred when one of its employees used a thumb drive to extract data from IRS computers, then took that thumb drive home. The agency said the breach had been on-going since 2007, The IRS said there is no "direct evidence" that any of the data was used in identity compromise schemes. Fox broke the story at 4 pm, but quoted an IRS release as the source of its information.
