Ping Heard by Searchers Seeking Missing Malaysian Plane

BALTIMORE, Maryland April 5, 2014 - China is reporting that one of its ships seeking the Malaysian Airlines Jet that disappeared four weeks ago with 239 people aboard has picked up "pings" that may be coming from the missing jet's black box. "Chinese patrol ship Haixun 01, searching for the missing Malaysian passenger jet MH370, discovered a pulse signal with a frequency of 37.5kHz per second, in south Indian Ocean waters Saturday," said a brief report carried by the Chinese news agency Xinhua early Saturday morning EST. Each commercial plane is required to have a black box on board to record cockpit conversation and a full range of flight data. The box is constructed so that it begins emitting a ping when the jet crashes. A multi-nation search in a remote area of the South Indian Ocean - where experts believe the plane may have crashed - has been underway for about two weeks. The missing jet's final flight originated in Malaysia with a Malaysian flight crew, but it was bound for Beijing, China, and most of the passengers were Chinese.

Fox News reported in the last ten minutes - about 7:58 am EST - that one of China's search ships has picked up a ping. The ship that picked up the ping or pulse only joined the multinational search in the last two days, Fox News said. Fox News reported that the news came from a Chinese News Agency.
